Context
I started in 2007 as a web design intern at Boerdam Interactieve Media, now called Foster, and worked there as a web designer until 2010. In 2013 I came back as a front-end developer and UI/UX designer, and mentored juniors, until 2018. Then I went freelance as Chris Wijnia Design, for clients including Foster, Novaware and CloudSuite. The work moved steadily from design into engineering.
What I did
- Design and frontend. From visual design to building the interfaces myself.
- Public platforms. JIJ & Overijssel and 100-100-100, both award winners.
- Digital platforms. Among them the MVRDV ecosystem.
- Wallet software. Among them the 1GRAM wallet.
- Open source. Small public tools and libraries on GitHub.
Outcome
It taught me to learn a new medium by building in it, which is still how I work.
